Mini/Junior Rugby In The UAE
Grass roots youth rugby from 5-19yrs of age
With every new season, the number of rugby clubs introducing mini & junior rugby grows, showing an increase in the interest from a grass roots level. Starting from the age of 5 – 19, young children, both girls and boys, can learn the basics of playing rugby union around the United Arab Emirates.
Mini and junior rugby players are usually introduced to the sport by playing touch (tag) rugby, which is a non-contact version of the sport. Many schools across the Gulf also include rugby as part of their sports curriculum. Gradually as the children become used to the rules of touch rugby, they’re introduced to the physical side – mastering the tackling game!
Usually from the age of 10+ the youth players will play full contact rugby up to the age of 17 or 18, when they will be looking to make their way into the men’s senior rugby teams.
To play at any senior level, players must be a minimum age of 18 years of age.
You can find rugby clubs offering mini and junior rugby throughout the Gulf region.
